It would have been lovely and exciting to have a swimming pool at home. Besides being able to exercise with family, the swimming pool can also be a means of relaxation and a place to recover.
However, limited land and costs can be a barrier when it comes to planning for a swimming pool making at home. One of the designs of a swimming pool that is suitable for a small home yard is a minimalist swimming pool. Because the design of the minimalist swimming pool prioritizes functions and needs, the cost of making and maintaining it can also be adjusted to your budget.
If you are interested in making a minimalist swimming pool in your house, there are several things that need to be well prepared. Some requirements must be met so that the swimming pool built later is not becoming a source of problems. Let’s check them out!
Despite the small area, make sure the size of the minimalist swimming pool remain ideal
Ideally a swimming pool has a minimum size of 3 m x 7 m, taking into account the comfort of movement when swimming. It could be a smaller pool, but its function is more for bathing and less optimal for swimming.
The ideal size of the pool requires a minimum of 4 m x 8 m because there must be a distance of at least 50 cm around the pool.
You also have to consider the pool user. If the user is an adult, then make sure the little ones don’t use it. Because of course the depth used is different from the pool for children.
If the land is not large enough for you to build lap pool, the alternative is you can choose to build a swim current pool or better known as endless pool. In this type of pool, it allows you to swim in place with resistant water current, so while you are swimming you seem to be moving, even though it is actually the current that makes you move.
Ensure the adequate electricity
Swimming pool needs a pump that rotates water to keep it clean with a minimum power of 500 watts. In addition, swimming pools also need lighting at night. For a minimum size, at least 3 underwater lamps are needed, each with 100 watts.
So homeowners must at least provide 800 watts of power specifically for swimming pools of the size above.
Do we need to drain the water in the pool?
Modern swimming pools already use the circulation system for maintenance—so if treatment is proper, the water does not need to be replaced. In other words, the pool water is only filled once.
The pump engine that will work to suck water from the pool is then forwarded to the cleaning tank or filter then removed again towards the pool. This process is called the circulation process.
Of course it still needs to be assisted by human labor in the maintenance of other hygiene. Although water supply for swimming pools can come from anywhere, for example groundwater, water utilities, or mountain water that is brought in specifically, the quality of the water must always be kept clean, the chlorine levels, and the pH levels. Therefore, it is better to plan it right before making a swimming pool at home—even though for a minimalist swimming pool—better to consulted it first with an experienced pool maker. Because if later a problem occurs, the repair will be very troublesome.
Choose a skimmer system as the water system
In general there are two types of pool water systems, namely the skimmer system and the overflow system. If you choose the right water system, then the water in your minimalist pool does not need to be replaced again. The filter engine contained in the water system will clean the pool automatically.
The overflow system requires a water circulation device called a balancing tank. This device requires a large enough area because it will drain water to the edge of the pool. While the skimmer system does not require a tank balancing to function, it is more suitable for a minimalist swimming pool built on limited land.
Use coarse textured material on the top surface of the pool
Various ceramics with unique and elegant motifs can indeed enliven the appearance of a minimalist swimming pool. But does your selection serve the right function?
For areas around a minimalist swimming pool, avoid using floor coatings that have a slippery surface because they can endanger users when they rise to the surface. Choose footing materials that are coarse textured, such as coarse-grained floor tiles, gravel and decorative stones.
As decorative purpose, choose the right ornamental plants
The minimalist pool area will indeed feel cooler when planted with lush plants around it.
However, lush plants are usually easy to shed leaves. Falling leaves then fall into the pool and become trash. Inevitably the swimming pool must be cleaned more regularly. As a solution, choose palm trees, dollar crops, and calatheas because they rarely shed leaves.
Hopefully some of these tips can be the best solution to give some useful insights on the process of creating a minimalist swimming pool in your home. Good luck!
